Since it is the first year I have lived off campus, I knew that all of my classes would take a little bit longer to walk to. When I saw on my schedule that one of my classes was located in the stadium, a little bit longer walk was an understatement. I’ve been to football games at the stadium before, but had no idea that there were classes located inside of it. With previous knowledge of where the stadium was I decided to leave super early on the first day just to give myself some leeway time. It takes me about 25 minutes to walk from my house to the classroom. In order to pass time on my long walk I usually listen to Pandora radio station through my iPhone. I also break my walk into sections to try and make the time pass quicker. This project really made me realize how long, yet scenic my walk is to class. While making my piece about my walk to class, I tried to portray how awake I was by the amount of blur in each picture. When I originally leave my house I’m still half asleep, but as my walk continues I slowly begin to wake up more and more. By using different types of filters on the photos I was able to change the amount and kind of blur. Some of the filters I used were sponge, film grain, ocean ripple, and dry brush. I also included pictures of a universal map and headphones but made them opaque in the background because to me they blend in with the walk and become somewhat automatic. I also decided to use some text speaking about the time just to show how long the walk really takes even though it is only displayed with six pictures.

Elliot Hundley: Eyes that run like leaping fire
In my previous blog post, I spoke about my visit to the Wexner Center for the arts on October 2nd. Along with Alexis Rockman's exhibit, I also viewed some pieces by Elliot Hundley. I loved all of his work because of the bright colors and 3d effects, but one that stuck out to me the most was Eyes that run like leaping fire.I found this piece very interesting because the colors and mass amount of details he put into the piece. The media of the piece was many different things that included wood, sound board, inkjet print on Kitakata, string, pins, paper, photographs, plastic, wire, and found embroidery. While viewing this artwork I could hardly tell what it was made of since there was so much going on. One thing that I did appreciate about the piece was that even though it had so much going on it still came together as a one image. The denotation I saw on the piece was a bunch of people painted and colorful string hung in front. After looking at the artwork for longer, I came to the connotation that the artist used so many different details to keep the viewer interested and have the eyes always looking at something different on the image hence the title. Almost nothing on the piece is the same, except for the woman painted on it, but even then she is shown in different angles with different facial expressions. I loved the creativity of Hundley's work and thought the big idea of his art was using everyday items like printed pictures and string and turning his art into 3d pieces.
Alexis Rockman: Evolution
Today (October 2nd) was the first time I've ever gone into the Wexner Art Center to view the exhibits and it was quite an experience. I haven't been to an art museum since elementary or middle school when we went on a class field trip. Since it had been such a long time, I almost forgot how much I appreciated art in person. One piece that really stood out to me was Alexis Rockman's piece titled Evolution. This piece was an oil painting that contained many details and was quite large. I think it stood out to me greatly because there was so much to take in. The scenery and creatures in the painting could either be made out to be objects from the distant past or even the distant future. I believe this is one of the artist's big ideas throughout her art work. The creatures and scenes she depicts are hard to put a certain date or even time era on. When one originally looks at the piece they see an above and under water scene of animals, insects. plant life, etc which reflects the denotation of the piece. However, once I looked more in depth of the piece the connotation I concluded was the difference between dark and light, and above and below. Above the water everything is bright and thriving. Underneath the water I got a more dark and mysterious feeling. Most times people don't know what's happening under the surface, so by showing whats under the water Rockman shows another world almost. I enjoyed her all of her work greatly and found all of her pieces interesting to view and I enjoyed trying to see what she was trying to portray throughout her work.

Getting Started
Well hey there :) My name is Jana Palmer and I am currently a sophomore at the Ohio State University. I am a fashion retail studies major and I also intend on minoring in entrepreneurship. My hometown is Westerville, Ohio which is not too far from campus. Some people may not enjoy living so close to home but a lot of the times it comes in handy to be able to run home if I forgot something, want to have a nice home cooked meal or miss my dog. I enjoy a lot of typical girly things that range from shopping, hanging and going out my with friends and boyfriend, and of course eating. I'm also known to be a very outgoing person and quite loud, so if I see you out at campus at night, I will most likely greet you in some way if i recognize you, so please don't be alarmed. I'm also not the most creative person, so I'm excited to see what kind of art work I'm going to create during the art education class I'm currently taking. So far my quarter has had a great start so hopefully it continues that way.
